Thaely, the world’s first 100% sneaker brand was born out of a simple exercise. Make sneakers out of plastic bags. A simple walk by the beach, will convince you to take up some action. Akshay Bhave, founder of Thaely, did just more than that. What started as an idea in 2017, won the Amity University Dubai’s 2019 Eureka startup pitch competition and soon received funding.

An Instagram reel “How an Indian company Thaely makes sneakers out of plastic” by Insider, introduced me to Thaely. I loved what they did and contacted them to create a photo essay.

Meanwhile, I had begun conversation with Pranali, a trained Kathak and contemporary dancer, with regards to documenting her dance routine.

Pranali hopes to modernise Kathak in a way which is approachable to youth whilst still holding onto its root and grammar. She believes that there’s no right way, but its important to have the right intent all through the journey.

I found a similarity in their existence.

These photographs are an overlap of their worlds.
